Alexis Clemons, a meteorologist who moved to Connecticut from Wisconsin, made her first on-air appearance in her new role during a morning segment of NBC Connecticut on Friday, Dec. 20.
During the segment, Clemons is introduced by NBC Connecticut Anchor Kevin Nathan. Clemons talks about her background and notes that she is very excited to cover a new area. Clemons grew up near Tornado Alley in St. Louis, Missouri, and "turned her childhood fear of storms into a lifelong passion for keeping communities informed and safe," her NBC Connecticut bio reads. Nathan, who has visited St. Louis to cover UConn games and the Boston Red Sox, said that he has found people from that area, including Clemons, to be very friendly.
"I am from the Midwest. I had never been northeast of New York until two weeks ago when I moved up here. I have fallen in love with the state (Connecticut) already," Clemons said during the Dec. 20 segment.
In her new role, she is a member of NBC Connecticut's Stormtracker team; she will give audiences a look ahead at the forecast for the week and let them know updates about weather events that might hit the state.
The meteorologist graduated from the University of Missouri in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in atmospheric science before working as a weekday morning meteorologist at KODE / KSNF in Joplin, Missouri. In November of 2022, Clemons joined the WKOW 27 News Storm Track team in Madison, Wisconsin; her WKOW bio reads, covering tornado outbreaks, heavy snowstorms and other extreme weather events.
During another morning segment on Dec. 21, NBC Connecticut journalist Briceyda Landaverde asks Clemons to tell the audience one fun fact about herself, to which she responds that she is a big fan of her hometown St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and will have to "learn to like the Red Sox."
The Missouri native originally announced her move to NBC Connecticut via social media on Thanksgiving.
Clemons isn't the only meteorologist to join NBC Connecticut in recent months. Stafford native meteorologist Steve Glazier joined the team in November. He previously interned at the news station in 2007.
