SOUTH BEND -- Howard Cross III, Notre Dame football's second-team All-America nose tackle, went through pregame warmups Friday night in his anticipated return from a high left ankle sprain suffered against Florida State.
Officially listed as available in No. 7 seed Notre Dame's pregame injury report, Cross wore a heavy wrap up to mid-calf in an effort to make it to the first-round College Football Playoff game against 10-seeded Indiana.
Injured early in the second quarter of the Nov. 9 blowout of the Seminoles, Cross gave way to third-year tackle Donovan Hinish as the Irish finished out an 11-1 regular season.

Struggling kicker Mitch Jeter, who has missed eight of 11 attempts since a 3-for-3 debut for the Irish in the season-opener at Texas A&M, made a 50-yarder in Friday's warmups. Jeter was perfect during his South Carolina career on kicks from 49 yards or closer but he suffered a right hip strain in the Oct. 12 win over Stanford.
Leading rusher Jeremiyah Love, who left the USC win on Nov. 30 with a reported right knee injury, also was listed as available in the pregame update. Love met with the media on Sunday and was in good spirits; he also appeared to be moving well on Monday during the 25-minute portion of practice that was open to the media.
Special teams contributor Devyn Ford, a sixth-year transfer from Penn State, also was expected back.
