The Gerard Butler heist film Den of Thieves 2: Pantera topped the box office charts over the weekend with a $15.5 million debut. The total even eclipsed its predecessor's, which netted $15.2 million at the box office upon its 2018 release -- though its $40 million production budget also shot past its prequel as well. Meanwhile, Better Man, the Robbie Williams biopic featuring a CGI monkey standing in for the British pop star, bombed its wide release in the United States, netting only a little over $1 million at the box office over the weekend. The film was produced independently with a budget of $110 million, Variety reported, and Williams himself provides the voiceover for the CGI chimpanzee. Better Man has fared only slightly better overseas, including in the UK where Williams is a household name. Multiple holdovers from the Christmas release season also outperformed the biopic, including Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
