Florida State had a 2024 season to forget. Entering the season ranked in the AP Top 25, the Seminoles ended up with a 2-10 record.
As to be expected following a disastrous season, the Seminoles have been active in the transfer portal. On Friday night, the Seminoles secured a solid pass rusher from Western Kentucky. Deante McCray announced his intentions to transfer to Florida State for the 2025 season.
McCray recently took a 2-day visit to Tallahassee and will now officially return to his home state.
McCray racked up 56 tackles and 2.5 sacks for the Hilltoppers in 2024. The DE played in parts of 3 seasons for Western Kentucky and ended his career there with 99 tackles and 3.5 sacks. McCray entered the portal on Dec. 8, seeking to capitalize off his big season.
As a prospect, McCray starred for Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, FL. The 247Sports Composite ranking had McCray as a 0-star player, with McCray receiving offers from Army, Navy, Florida Atlantic, and Western Kentucky. Now, the DE will get a chance to prove he belongs at the highest level of college football.
McCray is the 6th player to commit to the Seminoles via the portal this cycle. Former Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos and fellow edge rusher James Williams highlight the group of transfers brought in by the team so far. On the flip side, the Seminoles have seen 21 players enter the portal, including QB Luke Kromenhoek.
The Seminoles will not play in a bowl for the first time since 2021. As a result, you can likely expect much more portal news.
