A Boston man pleaded guilty before a Suffolk Superior Court judge on Thursday in connection with the 2022 fatal stabbing of a Dorchester man, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden's office said.
Dwight Watson, 58, pleaded guilty on Thursday to second-degree murder. His sentencing is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16. Opening statements and testimony began on Wednesday, Hayden's office said in a statement.
At around 1:03 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022, Boston police found Urvin Gerald, 48, of Dorchester with a stab wound at the Mount Horeb Lodge, Hayden's office said. He was taken to Boston Medical Center, where Gerald was pronounced dead.
Investigators later learned of an earlier altercation between Gerald and Watson, also known as "Dog Bite," the statement read. Gerald was a regular guest at the lodge.
Lodge security broke up Watson and Gerald after their altercation with Watson was escorted out of the building, Hayden's office said. About 30 minutes later, Gerald left the back of the lodge and into the parking lot, where Watson appeared.
Watson stabbed Gerald in the neck and ran off, Hayden's office said. Watson was later found by U.S. Marshals in Ohio on Jan. 27, 2023.
Gerald's family members are also expected to give impact statements.
