DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - A driver was arrested in connection to a three-vehicle crash that left a woman dead and two others injured in north Durham on Friday night, police said.
According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. to an accident with injuries on the 5000 block of N. Roxboro Street.
Investigators said the driver of a 2011 GMC Yukon, later identified as 42-year-old Nathane Blackmon of Durham, was heading northbound on N. Roxboro Street when the vehicle crossed all lanes into oncoming traffic. The vehicle then slammed into a 2009 Honda Accord, driven by 67-year-old Dawn Tucker of Durham, as well as a 2000 Chevy Silverado traveling in the opposite direction.
Tucker was taken to a nearby hospital, which is where she later died from her injuries, police said. A passenger in the Honda Accord was also transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, but investigators said this person's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado suffered minor injuries and was not transported, according to Durham police.
Blackmon, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, is facing several charges, including DWI, left of center and failure to wear a seatbelt, police said.
"Additional charges are likely to follow pending the investigation," according to a news release from the Durham Police Department.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Investigator J.T. Rose at (919) 560-4935 Ext. 29409.
