Eagles fans are never going to beat the stereotype.
Folks from Philadelphia are a different breed, so it's no surprise that the Philadelphia Eagles have a reputation for having one of the toughest fanbases in the NFL. And listen, I'm all for supporting your team, home field advantage, making your stadium a tough place for opposing players and fans. But this is just crossing the line.
Video is going viral of a Philadelphia Eagles fan berating a female Green Bay Packers fan last night during the Wild Card round game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly.
According to Alexander Basara, who posted the video on social media, the woman in the video is his fiancé, and the Eagles fan behind them clearly wasn't happy to see Packers fans in the stadium and decided to throw some disgusting insults at the woman, who didn't seem particularly eager to engage with him as Basara argued with the man:
"She's an ugly dumb c*nt. You gonna do anything? Shut the f*ck up. Turn around and watch the game."
It seems like even the man's fellow Eagles fans were telling him to chill out, and even Eagles fans took to social media to apologize for the man's behavior:
"Coming from an eagles fan I'm sorry. We're not all like this & im disappointed no one around him stepped in to say anything"
"As an Eagles fan, I'm so sorry. This is outrageous. I hope this guy suffers consequences for this. Major kudos to you for keeping your cool here (and your fiancée.)"
And while others questioned why the man didn't step up and knock the guy out, he pointed out that he was surrounded by Eagles fans, who would have thought he decided to fight a guy who was much older than him and jumped in to defend the guy.
Others questioned why he would even wear Packers gear to the game, but isn't that the point of going to an away game? To support your team? It's not this guys fault that the Eagles fan lacked any sort of decency.
If you're a fan of the home team, it's always fun to have some good-natured banter with away fans. Get your jabs in, heckle a little bit, but at the end of the day it's a game and should never be this serious.
The Eagles defeated the Packers 22-10 last night, and will have another home game next week against the winner of tonight's matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings. And the Birds defense looked stout yesterday, so they'll no doubt be a tough matchup for whoever they draw.
Of course, chances are the Detroit Lions handle the Washington Commanders next week at home, setting up a potential showdown in Detroit with the Eagles in two weeks, meaning you could have two of the league's toughest fanbases on a collision course with each other for a shot to play in the Super Bowl next month.
But if you're heading out to any of the remaining games, remember: It's just game. There's no sense in being so obnoxious that you risk going viral for acting like a jackass.
