Morgantown Police Department warns of scam calls

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) -- The Morgantown Police Department is warning the public of scam calls that threaten the receiver with arrest.

According to a Facebook post from the department, the calls involve someone claiming to be a Sergeant, who tells the receiver that they have missed jury duty and owe a fine that must be paid through Bitcoin.

The caller also states that if the receiver hangs up the phone, they will be arrested.

"These phone calls are FRAUDULENT, and we advise the public not to share any personal or financial information with the scam caller," the Facebook post said.
