NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Defensemen Pickups Dec. 21 - Youngest Hughes Produces Points, Lauzon's Greatest Hits

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Lane Hutson, MON vs. DET (45% rostered)

We've been covering Hutson quite a bit on this site, so you know what we like (skill, PP deployment) and what we don't (mediocre team, inconsistent minutes, inconsistent play).

Luke Hughes, NJ vs. PIT (42% rostered)

Hughes hasn't made quite the impact in fantasy hockey as he did last season when he quarterbacked PP1 for the Devils now that Dougie Hamilton is healthy. However, that hasn't stopped Hughes from registering four points in his past four games. He can be boom-or-bust since his role is usually carrying the puck and making smart plays rather than taking risks on offense, but the Pens don't defend very well so there is an opportunity for Hughes to score points.

Jeremy Lauzon, NSH vs. LA (20% rostered)

If you need hits, look no further. Lauzon was back in the lineup Thursday against the Penguins and promptly registered five hits. Last season's hits leader, Lauzon offers little else, but in deeper leagues with more than 12 teams, having a specialist such as Lauzon can be pretty valuable.

Connor Murphy, CHI at CGY (9% rostered)

Murphy's hot streak continues with a three-game points streak, and the Blackhawks might get even better with Seth Jones returning to the lineup soon. Jones' return shouldn't impact Murphy's fantasy value as much it does Alex Vlasic's, who'll lose his spot on the power play, since Murphy provides more in hits and blocks. The points right now are a bonus, and it's the right time to take advantage.

Jordan Spence, LA at NSH (1% rostered)

The Kings blue line can be a little hard to figure out. Defensemen derive most of their fantasy value from special teams, and Spence has been stuck behind Brandt Clarke for most of the season. However, Spence has been productive lately with four points in four games, and all of them at even strength.
