Trinity K. Bonet, former RuPaul's Drag Race contestant, came out as transgender on December 15th. She joins the plethora of Drag Race icons who have come out since their debut seasons, such as Adore Delano, Jade Jolie, Jiggly Caliente, Laganja Estranja, and many more.
Fans speculated on her coming out as she posted a selfie on X, formerly Twitter, with a trans flag in the caption. Some were certain, while others insisted "People thinking this is a coming out post when she's probably going to post a ten paragraph rant tomorrow about how emojis shouldn't be taken so seriously." Bonet replied, "I get so much pleasure and telling you you're wrong 🏳️⚧️😝," reveling in her coming out. She also posted under the name Trinity Jones on her Snapchat, and shared an infographic on being an "Aquarius Woman" on her Instagram Stories.
When asked for an interview with Out Magazine, she confirmed her coming out, but didn't want to make a big deal, writing to them "I've always been Trinity. I'm just keeping wig on."
Bonet originally competed in Drag Race season six, where she became the second queen ever to come out as HIV-positive. Through that, she was able to share her experiences and talk about the stigma around HIV. She highlighted the misinformation around being HIV-positive, and the fact that if someone has an undetectable viral load, the virus does not pass on to their partner during sex. Of the stigma around being HIV-positive, she states "Being a person who is openly HIV-positive, for a long time, I was a lot of secrets for a lot of people. But I'm nobody's secret. I'm successful, I got my shit together, I'm good in bed. I'm taking care of myself."
She also competed on season 6 of All Stars, where she did a recreation of Beyonce's Super Bowl half-time show, an iconic performance on both of their parts, and came in fifth place. We're excited to see what Bonet does next, and are so proud to welcome her into the world as her truest self.
