6 planets will be visible in the night sky in January, 4 to the naked eye

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - NASA announced that January will be an eventful month for stargazers, as six planets will be visible in the night sky, four of which can be seen with the naked eye.

A new report from NASA revealed that January is jam-packed with interesting astrological happenings, beginning on Jan. 3 with the peak of the Quadrantid meteor shower.

If you missed the shower, no need to fret, since that was just the beginning of January's skywatching events.

On Jan. 13 the moon will appear to pass in front of Mars, but the time will vary by location, so the organization advised that interested viewers should check skywatching apps and websites to learn when the event will be visible for them.

On Jan. 17 and 18 Venus and Saturn will "come within just a couple of finger widths' distance apart in the sky," according to NASA.

Luckily the most exciting astrological event will be happening all month long: four planets will be visible to the naked eye in the first few hours of dark each evening. Specifically, Venus and Saturn will be visible in the southwest, Jupiter directly upwards, and Mars in the east. Additionally, for those with a telescope, Uranus and Neptune can be spotted as well.

NASA's article stated that although planets are always in a long line, seeing so many bright planets at once is certainly a notable event.
