Christmas is just around the corner, and as soon as we're done unwrapping our presents and stuffing our faces, the world of retail has its own holiday tradition: The Boxing Day sales. With Aussies enjoying a public holiday (and maybe a few recently acquired gift cards), retailers make one last push for the year, and offer huge discounts on big-ticket items.
These days, forget traveling to the city and wading through huge crowds. Most of the best Boxing Day sales can be found online. Check back in on the day, when we have scoured the web to find all the best Boxing Day deals available in Australia, with a heavy focus on tech.
To get you in the mood, here are some early Boxing Day deals to get things started (or maybe act as a last minute gift idea)
Boxing Day is the day after Christmas, December 26. Traditionally, Boxing Day was more associated with gift giving than Christmas Day was (and originally was conceived as a day off for servants who had worked tirelessly in preparation of Christmas, but we'll move past that association). These days, Boxing day is known more as a sales event. Boxing Day Sales have been a thing in Australia since the 1980s, as a chance for retailers to quickly sell off their excess inventory from the Christmas season. These days, its almost more of a mini Black-Friday/ Cyber Monday. One that has been popular long before the American sales tradition came to our shores in any meaningful way.
Boxing Day falls on Thursday, December 26, the day after Christmas (December 25). However, many retailers begin their sales events in the week leading up to Christmas, and the deals often stick around until early 2025 (or as stock lasts). Retailers that have kicked off Boxing Day sales already include Amazon Australia, HP, Ebay and Kogan.
As retailers are trying their best to clear stock around Boxing Day, the Sales are an excellent time to score some impressive discounts on big-ticket tech items like laptops, home entertainment systems, gaming consoles and smart home devices. Keep an eye on stores like Amazon, The Good Guys, Bing Lee and Ebay. Keep an eye out specifically for the following types of products as well, as we consistently see these receive huge discounts over this period.
