The Dallas Mavericks are fresh off an appearance in the NBA Finals, where they fell short against the Boston Celtics. Instead of resting on their laurels, Dallas went out to add guard Klay Thompson in the offseason, giving them more firepower.
But the Mavericks shouldn't stop there as they try to bring the city another championship. With the star duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving lethal as ever, the Mavericks owe it to themselves to push the chips all the way in.
Dallas could be active ahead of the trade deadline next spring and they may look to add more talent to the roster. The team has a few trade assets to work with and they could still use some help along the wing.
Boston took advantage of the lack of wing defenders in the NBA Finals so Dallas may want to shore things up. In a new trade scenario, the Mavericks do just that and land a star 3-and-D defender from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Here is what the multi-team trade could look like between the Mavericks, Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Trail Blazers receive: Guard Terance Mann, forward PJ Washington, forward Naji Marshall, forward P.J. Tucker, a 2025 first-round draft pick from the Mavericks, a 2030 first-round draft pick swap from the Clippers, and a 2025 second-round draft pick from the Mavericks
The Mavericks land the big fish in this deal and Grant provides them with extra firepower moving forward. To even make it out of the Western Conference, Dallas will need some help and Grant can provide it.
His abilities give the Mavericks another weapon to use on both ends of the floor. Grant can take on tougher defensive assignments, lessening the load defensively for someone like Thompson.
This is a true win-now move and pushes Dallas closer to being legitimate title contenders again this season.
The Clippers don't give up too much here but land some valuable assets. Even without star Kawhio Leonard, Los Angeles has maintained a competitive team.
They flip Tucker, someone that they have long wanted out of the organization, for Thybulle, who can provide shooting and defense. The veteran forward could fit right in, providing a big boost to this team.
Kleber gives the Clippers more size, helping to address one of their biggest weaknesses. This deal arms Los Angeles to possibly make a surprising run in the postseason if the two stars are healthy.
The Trail Blazers have been looking to trade Grant for some time now and they finally get a deal that fits their liking. Portland has wanted two first-round draft picks in exchange for the forward and this is as close as they likely would get.
Mann has the ability to be a nice scoring guard for this team, while Washington can help replace Grant in the rotation. Portland can also flip Washington to another squad over the offseason if they feel he doesn't match up with their plans.
But the big prize here is the draft picks. Portland gets an extra one for this loaded 2025 draft class and a coveted swap with the Clippers at the start of the new decade.
