The Bothell City Council approved the change over the summer. Now it's in effect.
BOTHELL -- The speed limit is now a little lower on a section of Bothell Everett Highway running through both King County and Snohomish County.
Over the summer, the Bothell City Council approved a change to municipal code to lower the speed limit on the highway. It's now 35 mph between 228th Street SE to just north of NE 196th Street. The old speed limit was 40 mph.
The change went into effect in early December.
Engineers conducted a speed limit analysis, which established a need for a lower speed limit, according to the city. That analysis accounted for land use and collision history.
State data shows at least 40 reported crashes on this stretch of road with a new speed limit in 2023.
