Tarr, Joyce Ann

Joyce Ann Tarr Joyce Ann Tarr, aged 78, died on Saturday 28 December 2024, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon NH. She was born on 17 September 1946 in Keene, NH to Edgar Davis and Patricia (Castor) Pfenning. A long-time resident of New Hampshire, Joyce graduated from Keene High School and attended Keene State College before obtaining her nursing license from NHTI in Concord, NH. She worked for several years at Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, and later in life was employed as a travelling nurse by Johns Hopkins. She spent most of her employment with Johns Hopkins working as a pediatric nurse on Native American reservations throughout New Mexico, particularly in Gallop and Albuquerque, until her retirement. Joyce's time as an RN in New Mexico fueled her passion to address the unique health concerns facing our country's native populations, such as infantile diabetes, that have arisen from the erosion of tribal lands and heritage. As part of a nursing team that helped administer vaccinations to reservation residents, she was able to make a positive impact in the health of every person in her care.

As an avid reader Joyce read as many books as she could get her hands on. She especially loved the novels of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but like all book worms there was no genre off limits. Joyce's thirst for knowledge was exemplified in her love of watching the game show Jeopardy! where she showcased her expertise by answering questions before the contestants could buzz in. She brought the same playful and competitive spirit to cribbage games with friends and family. Through card games, Joyce imparted upon her family the importance of simple human connection and taught them life lessons of teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. She is lovingly remembered for her fondness of frogs, passion for Native American culture, and her wealth of accumulated knowledge. Joyce is survived by her three children; Gary Tarr, Vicci Tarr, Christian Tarr; as well as multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of New Hampshire. No formal services are scheduled at this time, but a celebration of life will be held later for family and close friends. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution in her name can do so to Southwest Community Services in Keene, NH.
